IRCCS* Policlinico San Donato Hospital was founded in 1969,  today it lies on an area of more than 50.000 sq.m. and is located in the city of San Donato Milanese, 7 km. from the centre of Milan.
The building structure extends over 16.000 sq.m. and is composed of two main buildings. The hospital has 8 operating theatres equipped with the most advanced technology, 373 beds for in-patients, 7 beds in day-hospital, 19 places for Hemodialysis and a Emergency Roon with 2 beds. The clinical activity is organized in 26 Specialistic Divisions of Diagnosis and Care,11 Centre of High Specialty, 33 Ambulatory Services, 21 Specialistic Services.
The Specialistic Divisions of Diagnosis and Care are organized in three principal divisions.

Cardiovascular Centre "E. Malan" Divisions:  Heart surgery I, Heart surgery II, Paediatric Heart surgery, Clinical Cardiology – Coronary Intensive Care, Cardiology and Electrophysiology, Cardiology and Hemodynamics, Paediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Disease in Adults, Vascular Surgery I, Vascular Surgery II, Post-Operative Intensive Care.

Surgery Divisions: General Surgery I, General Surgery II, Plastic Surgery, Orthopedics I, Orthopedics II, Orthopedics III, Intensive Care Unit, Traumatology, Urology.

Medical Divisions: Endocrinology and Diabetology, Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology I, Oncology II, Pneumology.

The High Speciality Centres are: Cardiovascular Centre "E. Malan", Alzeheimer Disease Assessment Centre (U.V.A.), Multiple Sclerosis Centre, Paediatric Cardiology Centre, Hip surgery Centre,   Electrophysiology and Arrhythmology, Hand and Lower Limb Microsurgery Centre, Multidisciplinary Centre for Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of  Gastrointestinal Neoplasms, Centre for Diagnosis and Treatment of Heart Valvular Disease, Centre of Obesity Treatment and Hypoitutary Disease Investigation,Centre of  Oesophageal Diseases.

IRCCS Policlinico San Donato provides the highest number of heart surgical interventions in Italy, about 2.000 per annum. In 2006 out of 14.312 inpatients, 11.048 were in the cardiovascular divisions. It is the most important hospital for treatment and Care of Congenital heart disease in Italy. IRCCS Policlinico San Donato is the reference hospital for the emergency care in cardiovascular disease in Milan, out of  4.000 patients in the Emergency Room, about 40% needed cardiovascular care (year 2006).

Excellence in Education
IRCCS Policlinico San Donato is one of the University of Milan headquarters for Medicine and Surgery degree; about 20 Medical Doctors working in our hospital are university teachers, over 240 students are trained every year. In IRCCS Policlinico San Donato reside 15 Schools of Specialization that host about 70 specializing graduates every year.
Every year the hospital hosts about 20 resident Medical Doctors from abroad.

Excellence in Scientific Research
